What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? SC

What happens if your divorce is not settled at the end of a one year legal divorce proceeding? I have been told we have to start over. Can you please explain or give me any information on what that means? I have tried to make suggestions, ask my husband for suggestions to mutually agree on what ever we could. He keeps putting this off and we are approaching the end of our one year separation. Any information would be appreciated.
