Question

does he have a right to my house

What is the name of your state? WY
I purchased a home in May of 2004 and my boyfriend moved in. In August 2004 we got a joint bank account. If he moves out is he entitled to partial ownership of the home since he lived with me. He seems to think I need to buy him out since we have remodeled.

if he is not on the mortgage and not on the deed/title to the home, then NO.

I live in NY too, and a friend of mine had the same thing. He thought he'd get half.
No, he has no financial obligation to the house, and you don't owe him anything. Did he help with DP or closing? You might give him some cash if that is the case.

But in my friends case (and they were married) - court told him no, you get nadda.
Remodeling is a far cry from being legally and financially obligated to the home.
Now, if there is a home improvement loan in his name, but still, it's not tied to the mortgage.... so that I am unsure of. I am sure someone else will have more to offer
