What is the name of your state? CA Ok, I have a question. I was in class one day and we had a lesbian speaker who said that domestic partnership is different from marriage becasue marriage only had to do with the ceremonial aspect of a partnership and a domestic partnership had to do with legality.
She gave the example of a heterosexual couple getting married and then saying "We are married because of the ceremony" Well my question is that when a marriage takes place there has to be a "ceremony" and a legally issued liscense. You can't have one without the other. S with domestic partnership was she saying that you have to only have the legal aspect without the marriage? Also, why can't heterosexual couples have a domestic partnership if it's the same thing? And what about inmates? A person mentioned that what if there were two homosexual inmates who wanted to have a domestic partnership, could they do that? Also, does a domestic partnership have a database of some sorts liek a "regular" marriage does? I mean when a person is married one can see if they had been married before or is still married, so that they can't try and marry 2 people at the same time. Does "domestic partnership" have the same guidelines. Oh, and also I there was a bisexual person who was saying they could have a marriage and a domestic partnership.
Is that legal? I mean you can't possibly have a domestic partnership and be married can you? Isn't that against the law? Or can a person just say well this is my right because I'm being who I am, etc,etc,etc.
I'm kinda confused about all of this
