engagement ring

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? alabama My son gave an engagement ring to his girlfriend. He has since had second thoughts and broke off the engagement. Can he make her give the ring back

Maybe. There are many schools of thoughts on this -- it can be seen as a conditional gift -- the condition being the marriage. However the girl was innocent in breaking off the engagement and therefore your son forfeits the ring is how another school of thought sees it.

How much is the ring worth? Does your son want to pursue this in court? Is he still paying on the ring? Was the ring an heirloom? Why did he have second thoughts?
