Father won't sign consent for needed medication

What is the name of your state? Wisconsin
My nephew has been diagnosed with a severe anxiety disorder. The 3 professionals he as seen recommend that he try a new medication that has been successful for others with his syptoms. My sister agrees with the doctors that it would be important to try the drug but her soon-to-be X won't even talk about it. Are there any conditions under which it would be legal to get the child the medication without the father's permission? The boy is miserable. Is it not a form of child abuse to deny him this drug which could help?

My response:

Try feeding the kid Salmon. The natural oils in Salmon relieve anxiety and will have a good calming effect. Feed him Salmon at least once each week.

Instead of harsh, and expensive, drugs that turn your kid into a Zombie, try other natural food supplements. Your health food store will help you with the proper combinations.

This is not a legal problem as of yet, your sister is not divorced, and apparently it is an argument over medication for the child.

What I can add to this, is that "IAAL" is correct, except there is more to it.

"Fish Body Oils 1000" from GNC , is a wonderful product. It does help with anxiety, and is Healthy. I do not know how old this child is, and only the parents can opt for perscribed medications.

Just throwing this option out there, I have seen it work well.

Good luck

If he's fussy and won't eat fish, try Omega 3 fatty acids directly. This is also helpful with ADD kids.

My response:

Ours was "Nutritional" information, not "medical". Okay, if you want the kid to suffer for the many, many, many months it's going to take for this matter to be resolved in court - - so you can get the chemical drugs that will turn the kid into something out of a horror movie - - then by all means, do absolutely NOTHING to help the kid, and make damn sure you don't go to a health food store to get the kid the supplements that would help him.

But, you're absolutely correct. This is a legal site, and not a health and fitness site. Just what the hell were we thinking, trying to ease the pain and suffering of a child. You're right. Make the kid suffer. He deserves it - - and you.

My response:

I sure do. Mrs. Liable and I both are very much into health. I swear by health foods, and supplements. How do you think I keep up my "manliness" at my advanced age?

Taking chemicals and their derivatives is always a LAST resort for us. More often than not, there's a natural remedy that works well, and I'd rather do that than take toxic chemicals any day of the week!

My body is a temple.
