funeral expenses

What is the name of your state? Michigan

My 83 year old mother in law has been married to her 70 year old husband for 15 years. He says he has no intention of paying her funeral expenses should she die first. Is he legally responsible?

So she was already 68 when she married him? Didn't she bring her own assets/estate into the marriage when she married him that can be used to pay for her funeral? I would certainly expect, if my husband predeceased me, and if I ever remaried someone some day, that my own assets could pay for the funeral I desire, OR I could PREPLAN it and have my funeral already taken care of before I die. A person's funeral generally is paid for out of their estate, if they have one.
