Getting Remarried-Is he liable for my debts?

What is the name of your state? Washington

I will be getting remarried in February of 2005, but I heard that my creditors would go after my new husbands credit and his credit would be ruined because of mine. Is this true? It will be three years before I get this debt paid off. I really don't want to wait till then to get married.

Debt

Only you and you alone are responsible for your debt prior to your marriage (unless someone else co-signed on loans, etc.). They cannot apply your past debt to your future husband. The only debt he will be responsible for is the debt that you and he aquire together.

Getting Remarried-Debts

Thanks for the reply. I was under the impression that my creditors would go after his credit when we married. Am I right in thinking if we try to buy something together, we wouldn't be able to because of my bad credit and we would have to buy things in his name for a while without me on the application? ( This will be my last question, honest!)

Keep your accounts and assets seperate. Do not put your name on his assets until all possibility of liens., judgements is past.
