Guardianship Law

I will try to make this short. My girlfriend who is 23 years old has manic depression and once a year for the past three years she loses it mentally for about a month gets sent to a hospital and in about a month she is ok. Well the last time her mother decieded to aquire guardianship of her this was in october of 2001. Since the guardianship was established she is not allowed to use the phone or leave the house except for daily church services she must attend. I wish to know if and how i might be able to recend the order on her behalf since she cannot. Can i do it by myself or will i require a lawyer.
