Help

What is the name of your state? New York

I am a Canadian residing in Canada and met a girl from New York last year.
I visited her from mid January to the end of February, and then we moved here to my home. We moved into my house and eventually bought a new one together and intended to marry. We never did marry, and things went bad rround Christmas time. She has returned home and we have a few assets to didvide. There is no equity in the house and other assets we have aquired together. She wants a financial settlement from me in exchange for signing over the house, etc and is threatening to sue me in US court for damages and breach of contract (marriage contract???). I am filing for bankruptcy here and am basically broke. Does she have grounds to sue me?

Thanks for your help!

US law only is the answer to your Canadian question.

The answer to your US question is that anyone can sue anybody for anything at any time anywhere.

Whether they can win is something no one here can tell you.

I suppose that means I could sue her as well....

Where am I able to get advise on this matter? I really have no interest in suing her, but I am concernerd that she may sue me.

You'd likely need to speak with some lawyers - both in CA and in NY.
