What is the name of your state? wisconsin

The day of my divorce to my first wife, i went to another state that allowed me to get married with no waiting. the state that i live in says i have to wait six months to remarry, Iam wondering if my marriage is legal now.

My response:

The law of the State where you reside is controlling. Since your State requires a 6 month waiting period, your subsequent marriage is "void."

Look at it this way, if everyone could merely cross State lines to avoid your State's 6 month waiting period, there wouldn't be a 6 month waiting period law in your State.

If your subsequent marriage is reported to your State's D.A. office in your State, you could very well be in for some trouble. If I were you, I'd inquire of whatever authority you received your marriage license in the other State as to how the license and subsequent marriage can be cancelled due to your "mistaken belief of the law" that you could be married in the other State.
