Incorrect father's name on Birth Certificate

What is the name of your state? California

Hello out there,

My son is 7 years old and was born in Colorado, although we now live in California. At the time of his birth, I was not dating his biological father (he left shortly after I got pregnant, and I haven't spoken to him since). I met a man while I was pregnant and his name is on my sons birth certificate as the father. Is there any way I can change my sons birth certificate to reflect his real biological fathers name? I would feel better knowing that my sons birth certificate is true and accurate. Is there anything I can do?

All help is appreciated, I've gone crazy looking for forms and websites!!

I don't think you or the biofather can contest paternity in CA since the child is older than 2. You may be able to file a petition requesting the change, but unless all parties agree to it, it will not likely happen. Paternity was establised when you and your BF acknowledge it at your child's birth in CO.

It sure would be a small world if I happened to know the man you were dating when you were pregnant, ever live in the Woodland Park area?
