What is the name of your state? california. i am in the process of divorcing. we are still waiting for court dates. my question is, how much money should i gave her from my tax return. she wants half of what i get. she dosen't work and we also have four kids. i know she will not spend any money for our kids. all under 18. can i excluded from my income tax, and file separated or give her half the money. i am also fighting for child custody. i usually get a return of $ 7, ooo + dlls.

Someone will come along and correct me if I am wrong.. however I believe that half of that tax return does belong to her. December 31st you were still legally married, correct? You could file married but separate I believe but that shortens your money anyways and just because she didn't work means nothing. When did you separate? That too can figure into what she is actually due. You may want to repost this in the tax section as you'll get better advice.
