Legal emancipation of a minorWhat is the name of your state?Kansas My 17 year old daughter gave birth to a baby boy on March 5. I have been given conflicting information. The hospital states she is now an emancipated minor yet the State is denying her any assistance because she is not a legal adult. She is currently living with her boyfriend and his mother (he is 18). Can you help? ![]() |

| Under Kansas law, her giving birth does not automatically make her an adult. Marriage would do that. "38-101. Period of minority. The period of minority extends in all persons to the age of eighteen (18) years, except that every person sixteen (16) years of age or over who is or has been married shall be considered of the age of majority in all matters relating to contracts, property rights, liabilities and the capacity to sue and be sued. " The applicable state law can be found at: http://www.kslegislature.org/cgi-bin/statutes/index.cgi
__________________ There are at least 17 lawsuits (!!) pending in various courts, including the US Supreme Court, asking if Obama is a natural born citizen (as req'd by Art II, Sec 1 of the US Constitution). Why has he spent over $1.35M in legal fees to block disclosure... rather than spend $12 for a VALID birth cert to settle the matter? The 'certificate' he has presented doesn't qualify to get a drivers license, wouldn't allow a child to qualify for Little League, or for a real citizen to get a US passport! |
