Question

Legal responsibilities for 17 yr old juvenile

What is the name of your state? Michigan

We have a daughter that left the house and was only going to be staying at her boyfriend's house for a couple of days but it's been almost 1 week. Can we at this point get different locks on the door to prevent her from just walking into the house and taking things? Or do we have to leave it open because we're legally responsible some how?

Are you trying to teach her a lesson/prove a point? Or have things gotten to the point where she/you think she should be on her own?

Of course, she thinks she should be on her own - I think some of us all thought that at her age - however, I don't think she should be totally on her own. I know she's not prepared for that - no vehicle, still going to school, part-time job at the mall. But her leaving was her decision - we don't begrudge her access to her things - just want her to also have to "face" the decision she made and realize that she can't just come into the house and pick up a weeks' worth of clothing and be gone - she hasn't talked to us since she left, but from siblings we know she has stopped there when we are not around. I appreciate any help/feedback you can give!
