Were you asked to provide the state involved?

If not, it's needed

If it was, then why didn't you provide it?

Are we in the US even? Children are never "illegal" in US law. Further sex of the child makes no difference at all in inheritance issues.
There's more to inheritance than just who is the descendent of who and yes, as Justa says, in addition to knowing what the wills and such state, we need to know what state it is.

By and large children born out of wedlock aren't treated different. The rules may vary for children who are the child of the man and a different mother than the one he is married to at the time he passes, but again, we need more details.

He will have the same rights as any other child, unless hubby elects to will him more. The caveat is whether mom successfully obtains a support order. Of course the IVF could have been contractual because her hubby could not conceive and a court might limit the childs rights accordingly.
