Living with someone that is divorcedWhat is the name of your state? NJ My question is this: My boyfriend has been unemployed for a few months. He is basically out of money at this point and is paying child support and alimony. He is legally divorced. If I should help him to pay his rent, bills, etc., is the ex-wife entitled to my money in any way? In other words, would my helping to pay his bills be considered income to him, thereby entitling her to my money? Also, if we are to move in together (which is quite a possibility) if he does not find a job soon, is she also entitled to my money in any way since I would be paying the bills in the interim? Thanks for your help and advice. |

| You might not like my advice, which is to tell him "bye" until he gets a job and can support himself, his kids, and apparently his ex-wife since he's been ordered to pay alimony. But if you don't do that, your money is your money UNLESS he gives it to her, which is a great possibility since he has found you to provide whatever he might need -- rent and utilities this month for him; rent and utility bills next month for ex-wife; Reeboks and Niki's next month for the kids. Consider the "interim" here a permanent fixture (and then reconsider YOUR well-being in all of this). That's my advice. hmmbrdzz |
