marital status

What is the name of your state?
texas

i lived with a man in 1996 and assumed his last named as if we were common law married
he was already legally married to someone else at the time and i used his name on a lease and at a job
would i still be considered married to him and would i have to go through legal divorce proceedings
i am wanting to get married now to someone else
i have not seen, spoken, or heard from the man since 1997
nor do i know where he is located

Since he was already married, you are not and never were married to him.

**A: I am confused. Do you want to make triple sure or just double sure? And are you sure you're sure?
