Marriage certificates issueWhat is the name of your state? Texas I hope someone can help me out here. My husband and I were set to marry in Mexico with a Texas marriage license to be filed in Texas. Some family members were very upset at not being able to witness our marriage and pretty much guilted us into getting married in Texas. So we put together a last minute ceremony and reception in Texas. The wedding was to take place after our return from Mexico. Everyone assumed we were having a pre-wedding honeymoon. Since the wedding in Mexico was already paid in full and we had always dreamed of getting married on a beach on Mexico we decided to go through with it. Our plan was to file the marriage certificate from Mexico and to do the second ceremony for show and just throw away the second certificate and never file it. Well the JP left the ceremony immediately and went ahead a filed it without our knowing. We now have two marriage certificates in Texas filed a week apart. I’m guessing the second certificate filed is invalid, right? Is there anything I can or should do to get the second filing off legal record? Thanks! |

Same thingI was married in two different counties in Texas several years ago, both licenses were filled and there was no problem since the applicants were the same; however, I did divorce and only the first marriage was legally recognized. So as far as there being multiple licenses filled I wouldnt worry about it, but if you ever do petition for a divorce you will need to go by the first date of marriage. Hope this helps. ![]() |

| Not all Mexican marriages are legal, so having the additional Texas certificate is ok, also Texas in a state that recognizes comon law marriage, congratulations, you are very married!
