Minor child name change

What is the name of your state? Michigan

I have a child who has not had contact with bio-dad since 1/2000, I go to court April 7 for a hearing to get his last name changed to mine. I do not expect bio-dad to show up. (We couldnt find him, so we had to publish to "serve" him) Anyways, this is my question: How long will it take to get a new birth certificate?? I will be registering him for school and they are going to require a birth cerificate. I do not want them registering him under the other name. Sign up is around May 1st, is this enough time. Any opinions appreciated! Thanks.

If you don't have the bc, you should have a copy of the court order, and I'm betting the school would accept that pending getting the cert.
