Minor Name Change no father

A year prior to getting pregnant, i was divorced and chose not to take back my maiden name. Not the smartest thing to do. When I got pregnant a year later, I was unsure of who the father was. Since I was not allowed to give my son my maiden name, because it was not my legal name, he bears the last name of my ex-husband - who is of no relation to him at all. And since I did not know who his father was, none is listed on his birth certificate.

I now want to change both my name and my son's name to my maiden name.
We both currently have my ex's last name but go by my maiden name. TN law states that legitimation proceedings must occur prior to minor name changes where no father is listed on the birth certificate. I did do paternity testing with one person, but the results were negative. Now what?
