What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New Jersey
When my husband and I were first married, he wasn't yet a US citizen. When he got his citizenship, they changed the spelling of his last name. Now we have two different last names. It's only a matter of one letter difference. In order to avoid confusion for things such as health insurance I want to change the spelling of my last name to match his. Do I need to legally change my name to do so?

Maybe, maybe not. Try talking to the SSA about correcting the spelling of your last name. If they will agree to correct the spelling, then you may not need a formal name change. If they won't, then you will.
