name change for minor

What is the name of your state? I reside in the state of TX. My 16 yr old daughter wishes to have her name changed to my married name and that of the rest of the family. Her birth father has not paid child support or exercised visitation since she was 3 years old. I have no idea where he is now to get his consent for the name change. I have purchased a do it yourself name change for minor. Do I have to get his consent or notify him? If so, how?

I am in California not sure if laws are the same, but as far as I know. First you have to run a ad in a news paper letting everyone know you are changing her name. Incase she owes money on a credit card etc. As long as you can prove that you have triied to reach him. Also he would have to show up in court to fight the name change. Hope this helps.
