| Im in California, I have a child from a previous
non-married realtionship, which no contact nor support has been made for the past 5 1/2 years. My son, is now 9 and has a faint memory of the biodad and asks of his whereabouts, and can he see him (i dont know where he is,and that is what i tell him). I am now married with 2 additional children with my husband, and naturally my son wants the same last name as ours. Bottom line: is there a procedure I can do that will allow my sons last name to be changed, without doing an adoption (so if my son demands a relationship with his biodad before 18, I want the biodad to pay for something, and not get off scott free.)If i let an adoption go through with my husband, and my son wants to see and know his biodad, who am I to deny my son his request. I just want a way that my child can have our name, but there still be a door open to sue the biodad for support (since he told me in the past, he wants a relationship but does not want to pay support. |
