Need advise

What is the name of your state? CA I have been living with someone for 3 years. We live in my house that I purchased 16 years ago. I am soley on title on the house as a single woman. The man that is living with me has told me that it is his legal right to be able to stay in my house for up to 6 months after I tell him he needs to leave. True or not?

not necessarily 6 months, but you would have to go through a legal eviction process. just an aside, boy, if someone I was living with told me that kind of crap, I would sure get the show on the road now. 6 months from now is a lot shorter than 6 months from next week.

yes, does he pay rent?? do you have any kind of lease with him? if not look for notice of eviction processes. I have heard that CA is one of the tough ones for the landlord, so you really could be looking at the 6 months. others will offer their opinions and advice I am sure and may have additional information for you.

He has really turned out to be a bad apple. In the last 11 months he has only given me $600, nothing else. It was first agreed verably that he would give $1000 per month. The first year he was able to do that for only 10 months. The second year he was only able to do that for 8 months. Since October 2005 he has given me $300 only twice. He pays for no utilities, food, gardener, etc and he brings his 10 year old daughter over every other weekend. He was suppose to be a recovered alcoholic. His drinking is out of control. He has lost respect of my property and has chosen to leave his cigarettes out or burning in places where it could be deemed unsafe. I have really ended up with a mess.

Personally, I would pick a day when he was gone, box up all of his possessions nice and neatly put them out on the front porch, patio whatever and change every lock on the house. Then I would call the police when he showed up and started raising hell.

But since this is a legal website, I have to vote for legal eviction. (written in very small letters) .
