not making sence

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Bangor, Maine

Ok don't know if this is something anyone can answer me but trying to make heads or tails bout something.

I have the divorce papers sent to me in the mail form when i got divorces last year. I am getting ready to get married again and when going to the city hall to get the paper work for the new marriage was told that the papers i got in the mail are not good enough and i have to go to the court house and pay to get a certified copy form the courts.

Can anyone give me a good reason why the city is doing this. All I got for an answer form the city was that they don't consider the papers sent to a person form the courts after the divorce to be certified and such.

Certified copies are verified as true and original - a regular photocopy can be altered.

Are you asking why you have to pay for a certified copy?

My guess is that they require a certified copy...

Google is your friend:

http://www.maine.gov/portal/family/marriage.html

It's pretty clearly spelled out.

ETA: In fact, if you want to read the law itself, see http://www.mainelegislature.org/legis/statutes/19-A/title19-Asec651.html (look at para. 4)
