Obtaining foster care records from the state / privet agency

What is the name of your state? Michigan

I was placed in foster care in 1986 only as a temporary place to stay only to be later “legally kidnapped” (in my opinion) by the state of Michigan and placed up for adoption. I spent the next 10 years or so going from foster home to foster home and being mentally, emotionally, sexually and physically abused more than I ever was at home with my parents. I don’t claim that my mother (charged with physical abuse) is perfect and I openly admit that she needed help back then.

I have requested my records, in full, from the state as well at the privet agency that I ultimately ended up being a part of. The state gives me a lot of run around about getting my files every time I ask. I have gone to the privet agency on two occasions, in person and with letters declaring that what I wanted to see and why, and was rejected. (Once by the head of the office I was once threw and a person who was part of my case. He said that I had no business seeing the files as they are so sensitive in nature what ever the hell that means!)

I feel that it has been so long that neither the state nor the privet agency will have any records remaining on me, but I still feel like I need some answers. I am very close to my real parents and they encourage me to find what I need to find out, they have said the story to me from their point of view time and time again, so it is not an issue with them. I guess I am after documentation of what was going on with me behind my back after I became a ward of the court.

Hire a lawyer and file a lawsuit under the open records law.
