Question

parent's part in 17 yr old's moving out

What is the name of your state? IL

Our seventeen yr old son doesn't want to live at home anymore. We've homeschooled him. He is about 1.5 yrs from graduating. He wants to quit school, move out, get a GED (in that order.) He works part time at DQ, wants to either live with his cousin or brother.

I shared with him what I know of the law about emanciptaion. He just blew that off and said, "Would you send the police after me?"

My question is, "Can we, as his parents, get into a legal mess if we don't stop him?"

HOw long have you home schooled him? Maybe he really needs to spread his wings more than he can in a homeschoolinh environment? See about compromising and finding an alternative school, or a regular HS where he will feel leess isolated and have more chance for social interaction with his peers.

No matter what, dropping out of school would be a HUGE, life limiting, mistake!

Here's what I would do. Sign him up for the Army and send him to Iraq. Let him grow up, and if he isn't willing to do that, just drive him to Arkansas and drop his ass off at the border.

"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."
C C Colton.

Well, they say that the weak often try to imitate their masters, usually in an attempt to hide their own shortcomings. And it looks like another fan has taken to try to imitate me on the forum.

He is using the name JEXT.

Enjoy it while you can.... your time is short.

There are at least 17 lawsuits (!!) pending in various courts, including the US Supreme Court, asking if Obama is a natural born citizen (as req'd by Art II, Sec 1 of the US Constitution).

Why has he spent over $1.35M in legal fees to block disclosure... rather than spend $12 for a VALID birth cert to settle the matter? The 'certificate' he has presented doesn't qualify to get a drivers license, wouldn't allow a child to qualify for Little League, or for a real citizen to get a US passport!
