polygamy

What is the name of your state? alabama

okay, i know someone who is a polygamist. he has close ties to tom green in utah, in fact he was married by him, and i was wondering what laws if any he is breaking. his no 2 wife was 17 when she married in 2000 and she has a baby. it's a sucky situation, and regardless of what people think the law 'should be' or whatever, i wanna know if he's overstepping lawful boundaries and what punishment he could be facing if any. also, seeing as how i know about this situation, what legal obligation do i have, if any, to report this. i guess i'm basically asking for any legal information i can get cuz i'm confused and a wee bit concerned .

Polygamy is illegal. Period.

I'm not about to post all 50 states' statutes defining polygamy as illegal. EVERY state has a statute on the books for this. It is illegal in EVERY state. Feel free to google.

As far as federal...Reynolds v The United States.

Forcing underage girls into 'marriage' with older men and forcing them to have sex (there was a bed in the temple where all 'marriages' were to be consumated) is nothing more glamorous than sexual abuse of a child. As it is difficult to figure out who is related to whom and some of these girls may have been forced to marry their biological relatives, it also moves into the territory of incest.
