Power of Attorney given to Father-in-lawWhat is the name of your state? GA My husband is incarcerated for 6 months beginning in December. Before he left he gave a general power of attorney to his father without my knowledge. Unfortunately, some of our assets, including my car, the house and our primary checking account are in my husbands name only. My father-in-law wasted no time in cutting off my access to the checking account and there is now talk of him purchasing our home. Do I have any recourse? When I have discussed it with my husband, he has told me that the only purpose for the power of attorney was for his father to handle some past tax issues. I have read the power of attorney and it does not limit my father in law's power to these tax issues. My husband seems either unable or unwilling to handle the situation. Any help is greatly appreciated. |

| Your signature would be needed on the house sale because you and your husband are married. As for the checking account, time to sue for child support. Sue your husband and actually your FIL since he is power of attorney. I would have to check but in some cases this might be considered a crime.
