premarital debt

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? North Carolina

Is one's spouse liable for student loan debt accrued before marriage? I know most states do not pin the old debt on the new spouse, but what about my state?...and what legal document can I find this information in? Thanks.

It is separate debt so long as it is NOT refinanced and the spouse cosigns on the refinance or it is refinanced with other martial debt. You would have to understand the legal definition of separate and marital debt.
