Responsible for debt if spouse's debt?

What is the name of your state? MA

I'm trying to get the answer to this question and have posted it in a few different places on this site.

Having recently been married, I'm curious if my spouse and I are responsible for the other's debt if one of us should die owing money. By debt I mean seperate credit cards and expenses - nothing joint.

And if so, is there anything we can specify in a will that would eliminate the other's responsibility for a debt that isn't theirs?

Anyone know?
