restraining order

im 16 years old and my boyfriend is 20. in my state 16 is the legal age of consent. i have not lived with my father in almost 2 years and i have no contact with him. he has never met my boyfriend and has no reason to dislike him. my mother likes him and so does my step-father. my dad threatened to put a restraining order against him to prove to me i am not allowed to date whomever i want. can he do this?

Is there something you're leaving out of your story? Dads who have no contact with their kids for 2 years have no idea -- nor do they care -- who their kids are dating. Your dad, however, knows enough about you to know who you're dating, and he cares about it. For some reason, which I believe you're not telling us, your dad disapproves. Legal or not (which I don't know about in your state), men who are 20 are too old for girls who are 16. You'll understand someday.
