Secret Marriage

My boyfriend and I want to have a secret marriage due to family opposition and countless of other factors. We are both over age of course, but we want to know what the legal procedings would be. After we are married, (due to the secracy) we wont be able to live with eachother or support one another financially... so how do we get around the taxes and everything with secracy without anyone finding out until the appropriate time. Is there any way we can go about filling taxes without included our spouse as dependant or any legal procedings we can do to ensure that our marriage is kept secret???

Puerto Rico

My response:

Look around you. Do you see the United States in your town?

This is a UNITED STATES legal site - - not Puerto Rico. It's also not the year 1873.

How ya doing, me amigo?

Looks like I've had to sweep out a troll this evening. FJ must have come back from vacation. Now his boss will have to re-train him!

My response:

Wrong, idiot. Puerto Rico is "self-governing" and is in control of it's own INTERNAL laws. We don't practice Puerto Rican law, any more than we practice Canadian law. And, all because Puerto Rico is a "territory", doesn't mean that Puerto Rico isn't in control of it's own destiny.

You need to learn something about where you live. I guess you flunked your "government" or "civics" classes.

cuba? canada? We dont even have our own type of goverment... the decisions we make as an island revolve around our decsions regarding the United States. Partido Popular Democratico. Partido Nuevo Progresita and Partido Independentista Puertorriqueño are all parties who have outside representation in the United State Senate (not allowed to take any action or express any PRrican opinion.. but..), the taxes we pay our to the United States in order to get legal protection and American Citezenship.. this act is called El Estado Libre Asciado. We are currently protected under this law, we deal laws differently regarding "county or State wise", but our laws are the same since we are indeed american citezens. Any more history lessons my boy?

My response:

Oh, God . . . You are as dumb as a sack of rocks. Of course you have your own Government. You even have your own Governor, and Capitol!

I already said Puerto Rico has it's own INTERNAL laws, of which "marital laws" are a part.

I wasn't talking about "Territorial laws", like taxation, or voting for a President of the United States, or Military protection, etc. Of course, as a Territory, the United States and Puerto Rico are "partnered" in terms of EXTERNAL laws, e.g., things that affect Puerto Rico BEYOND it's island borders!

But MARITAL LAWS are strictly controlled by Puerto Rico's OWN "internal" laws.

Why are you mixing apples and oranges? Instead, go back to school.

This is true of all states in the U.S.

Trixy, hon... In all honesty, if you and your boyfriend are not mature enough to marry openly, but need to hide the fact of your marriage to the extent you intend to - neither of you is really mature enough to marry. Regardless of the legalities.
