Son wants to set his on weekend visitation with parent

What is the name of your state? Texas My son has turned 14, I share joint custody with my ex husband. My son now that he is a Freshman in High School has his friends and things he wants to do on the weekends which leads to arguements with his Father. My son has asked My ex husband if he can skipp visitation with him on some weekends to go and do things he has planned with friends on my Ex-Husbands weekend for visitation and each time my Ex has told him no that he has to go with him because it is his weekend. Can you tell me at what age a Child can say he does not want to go and what is the process that we have to go through to get this done. I don't like to make my son go with his father when he does not want to go can anyone help us?

Your son gets to make these types of decisions when he's 18.

Have him plan those things on your weekend instead, if you feel he should be able to go.

It might help if you were to explain to your son that all his father has with him is the visitation and therefore his father wouldn't want to give up his time with his son. You could ask your son to discuss with his father how they can handle his weekends to suit son's social life better - son's friends coming there or father picking him up and dropping him off at friends and social activites.
