My son has been divorced over a year and was separated a year or more
before that. His wife left on her own. She decided she didn't want to be
married. She agreed to pay for the divorce and when the papers arrived
he had a lawyer look them over. The lawyer suggested some changes and
these were made before my son signed. At the divorce she was made res-
ponsible for some of the debts and he also. They divided them up. Now
he is having problems getting credit due to negative items on his credit
report. These cards were in both of their names and one of them she is
presently 30 days late with a payment. He has talked to the companies
involved and they cannot or will not remove his name from the cards. She
would have to apply in her name and then cancel the previous card. Is
there any way he can write each company saying he is no longer married
to this person and will not be responsible for her debts? At times she has
been agreeable and even apologized but after he learned of a judgment
against them he called and learned she now has an unlisted no. and she
isn't answering emails. Is he up a creek without a paddle? Thanks..
