spouse financial responsibilty

Hi! Thank you for your help. I live in illinois. I have been married 10 years. I have always worked and supported my house and family. My husband has never had a "job" and claims to be self employed. Since I do not know if he makes any money I have always claimed, "married filing separetly" on my tax forms. Am I legally resposible for his medical
insurance, unpaid medical bills, or other debts he incurs? I do not claim him as a dependant or included any of his bill that I pay in my deductions. If he creates debts am I responsible legally to pay them?
