Question

Still Not The Father..please Help!!

What is the name of your state? NJ

I had already posted my problem in the child custody section....Here it goes......back in 1993 I was proven not to be the father of my exgirlfriends child...the case was dismissed and I was told I could never be brought back on this matter. Well, now 10 years later my employer gets a letter requesting information about me for the purpose of collecting child support. After a phone call to the child support office I was told that the grandmother of the child had just taken custody of her and she now wants me to pay....I guess her daughter didn't mention the DNA test back in 1993. I immediately faxed over the DNA test and the dismissal papers, a few days later I called only to find out that the grandmother was very angry about the news and she wants to contest the results (I don't think my DNA has changed since then). What should I do about this...this poor child has spent all of these years feeling abandoned by me and has probably been told awful things about me.....should I retake the paternity test to prove toher that I am not the father and how do I find out if I am on the birth certificate as the social worker seems to be avoiding answering me about that. Please advise about how I should handle this matter as well as if at any point does this become harrasment and do I have any legal way of perhaps speaking to the child who is about 12 / 13 years old???? PLEASE HELP!!

First, please understand, this is not legal advice, but I don't think legal advice is what you're asking for. It sounds to me like you might want to be the father of this fatherless child. If so (and if you are willing to bear the consequences of being the "father" it is usually possible, by just admitting paternity). Then, you would have rights to a relationship to this abandoned, perhaps neglected child, as well as child support responsibilities. From what I read into your post, this could be a good thing. If you want a child, and are willing to be a parent, this might be a good thing.

I'll look for some links for you.

Good Luck...
