Still stuck at 17?

Okay, first off, I'm in Arkansas. If I just moved out right now, I'd be declared a runaway, legally, right? But are the powers that be really going to care so much as to arrest me, or whatever it is they do to runaways? I'm seventeen, staying in school to finish up that last year, I have a steady job, and a safe place to stay. ...is there nothing I can do until I'm eighteen??

You are correct if you leave home at 17 you can be reported as a runaway. Will they do anything? Who knows, but I'll tell you what, If my child left at 17 you bet your behind I'd be reporting them because in several aspects of the law if you break it your parents can be responsible for it and I'd be d*amned if I'm going to be responsible for someone that I can't control their actions.

Hell kid, what more could you want? You live in Razorback country, have great golf and horse racing, some of the best vittles in the country and don't have to make much to be living like a king.

And you want to leave Arkansas? You should be committed.

I don't get it. All these 16 and 17 year old who are in such a desperate hurry to leave home, and I can't pry my 21 year old stepdaughter out of her bedroom with a crowbar.

Well, let's see.. besides the agrevation of having Welfare come in and do checks, having to take time out to file police reports, having to take off work to go to not only go to court with the child but also to go to counseling and having to be there to watch them there is also the costs of probations, and in extreme cases when they are sent to homes or boot camps the costs of those.
