stopped payment on check

I am in Florida. I gave a check to a lady for a medical procedure. She cancled the procedure, said she was not having it done. I stopped payment on the check because I didn't trust her not to cash it. She cashed it at a check cashing store. Now I get a letter from the store saying I am liable for the check because they are protected by law on third party checks. Do I have to make the check good or does the lady that cashed the check?

I always thought the person who signed the check on the back was taking responsibility for the check.. I could be wrong...
