title to a boat trailer

i live in virginia. i have full ownership and title to a boat. however the trailer is in my boyfriernd's name and mine. on the title is says his name and my name or surv. do i have to get him to sign it before i change it to just my name. and if he won't what options do i have (or being the key word in the title)
