My daughter (R-10 years old) from a previous marriage carries the biological fathers' surname. I have since remarried (6 years now), and due to behavioral/emotional issues really need to change R's surname to the current family name.
Biological father's residence is unknown - has not contacted the child with even so much as a Birthday card, let alone any child support
(but that's another issue).
I understand the first step is to file a Petition for Name Change with the Disctrict Clerk ($155.00)....but after that I'm lost.
If at all possible**************...could someone please give me a step-by-step process of how I would go about this????
Also - can I legally alias R with the family surname such as in registering for school??
ANY help on this matter would be appreciated!!
