| uninformed about baby recently, my husband's nephew got a call informing him that a woman he slept with gave birth to a son. He did not know she was pregnant, nor has even seen her since they slept together. Apparently, she gave the baby his last name without his knowledge or consent. I do know that in Ohio, when you have a child out of wedlock, the court orders DNA testing before determination of child support, however, in this case, the father hasn't received any notification from the courts yet. How is it that she can name her baby after him without his knowledge or even being present to sign a birth certificate? What happens if it is found through DNA testing that he is NOT the father? The 2 friends of mine who are unwed mothers gave their children their surnames, not the father's, regardless if they were together at the time of birth. They too, do not know if this could be done legally. We all thought that the father had to be present to sign the birth certificate. Can anyone answer this question? It would be greatly appreciated. |
