Question

Universal Life Church

What is the name of your state? Indiana
I'm sorry if i posted this in the wrong place but it was the closest forum i could find. i was wondering if the universal Life Church ordanations(spelling?) are really legal? i would very much like to be married by a close freind who is not a member of any clergy and was told she could become ordanied for free by this company online. if she was to do so would it be a legally binding wedding?
thank you for your help.

My response:

Sure. Joey Tribiani did it for Chandler Bing and Monica Geller, so your friend can do it too!

You'd be in good company. There are a lot of people in this country who have been married by so-called ordained ministers of this sort. In any event, if you stay together long enough common law will come into play and you'll need not worry.

Wrong. Indiana does not provide for common law marriage (it will, however recognize the validity of a common law marriage from a state that has them).

Opps! I stand corrected. And to think I could have gotten away with it when I lived in Indiana!
