US immigrant marriage to Canadian citizen

Im a resident legal alien (immigrant) who plans to marry a Canadian citizen, and the marriage ceremony to be held here. I want to know:
1)his legal status after our marriage?
2) if his status will be the same as mine, do i need to apply for his legal resident status? and usually how long does it take before he could get that status?
3) if ever he decides to go and visit Canada for a while, is there a possibility that he be denied entry back in US pending the processing of his new legal alien status? or do you advice he stays in the US for a while until his status becomes official/legal/approved?
He has visited me for a few times but recently denied entry by the officials of the INS upon learning that he'll visit me ("his fiancee") and learned about our marriage plans.He has been asked a number of documents (like work status in Canada, bank statements, date of return), and only then he be allowed entry. Will try his luck this 15 May.
