validity of marriage

What is the name of your state? Oregon
I need to know if my marriage which took place in Vejle, Denmark, while I was in the army, is valid in the US. I was forced to get a RO against my spouse for abuse with me, and children, and before fleeing the state, he finally gave me a copy of our actual marriage certificate, which I had not had. I am wondering if we were supposed to register or notarize this marriage somewhere in the US to make it valid, and also the social security numbers listed on the certificate are not correct for either one of us. I just need some info because I need to file for a divorce and am not sure how to proceed...if it is not valid, then I of course would not need a divorce, but there are children...and the issues concerning them. I did some searching before finding your site, and so far nowhere in the US do they have any record of marriage for us. Please help....

Doesn't matter if there is a record in the U.S. on your marriage. You are married. Plain and simple.

Thanks for the reply, but it would be nice if someone would elaborate on the validity, laws and regulations regarding service members marrying abroad, and what type of notarization/registration needs to be done afterward.

I must have missed the part in your ORIGINAL post where you mentioned that you were a member of the military or a spouse of a military member.

As for making it valid in the U.S. there's not a damn thing you have to do. Just as I said before, you are married. If you want to divorce the cad then file.

Oh, and yes, I happen to know a little of what I speak. After 14 years living in Europe some things actually did soak in.

If you cant communicate on a professional (adult) level, then don't bother responding to others questions. I could care less if you lived in Europe for 14 or 40 years. You still evaded directly giving an answer, other than, you know what you are talking about. That's nice...go tell someone else...also, do your research, why don't you look up validity of marriage, vejle, Denmark, on the web, and see what it says regarding US military, and registering/notarizing your marriage....I just did, and they were quite a bit more knowledgeable than yourself. And as for the incorrect social security numbers on the certificate, the US State Dept replied to that question, and the certificate would be invalid- the names don't match the people whose socials are listed on the certificate.

why did you both give the wrong SS numbers when you got married?

Having a wrong SS number on the marriage certificate is a clerical mistake that shouldnt invalidate the marriage. you should meet with an Army attorney about the divorce.
