Validity of a Mexican Marriage

In the state of California, would a marriage between two US citizens that took place in Mexico be valid? The marriage is legal by Mexican standards but doesn't comply with all of those of California. I have read the California Family Law code 300 through 310, dealing with marriage and I can't seem to find an exacting answer. Since both are residents of California and had pretty much an overnight marriage in Mexico is it binding in the states?
