What can be done?

What is the name of your state? NC
A very close family friend passed away very suddenly. Her 16 year old daughter is now left with no parents. Mother has a will drawn up stating if she died her brother was to get her daughter and the 50K that came with her.
Daughter call my hubby and I today in tears. Seems her uncle and aunt are treating her like an outsider. They didn't want her anyway, but the 50K changed thier mind. She said she stays in her room all day and they never talk to her. Only to make her baby sit her cousin. And they are putting a huge dent in the money that was left instead of trying to look out for her future. I want to know what rights the daughter has? She wants out of there so bad. SHe is in so much pain right now and has no one she can talk to to help her deal with this. (she is home schooled and the keep a tight watch on her. Even stopped letting her boyfriend of 2 years have any contact.) My hubby and I agreed to let her live with us. We promised her mother before she died we'd look after her. But the death was so sudden mother didnot have time to get it changed. But we told her (daughter), she had to do it legal. All T's crossed and I's dotted.
So what can she do? We suggested she get in contact with a lawyer to see what she can do. My hubby and I would like to see the remaining money set aside in a trust fund for her.
Thanks for your time and advice.
