Who can raise nephew's children?

I live in Detroit MI. My nephew is in jail for 8-20 years. He is married and has two minor children (6 years old & 2 months)His wife asked me if my husband and I would raise her children in the event of her death or incapitation. What are the steps we would need to take for this action and what are the forms we need to fill out? My nephew is in agreement with this request.

She needs to have a will drawn up naming you and your husband as guardians of the children.
