www.pbs.orgWhat is the name of your state? louisiana www.pbs.org is the web site for public broadcasting service. Frontline, a T.V. show on PBS recently aired an expose' that would probably be of interest to many on this message board: Logan Marr was murdered by a social worker who took custody of Logan as a foster parent after the same social worker was involved in removing Logan from her mother's custody. I saw most of the show, including interviews with the social worker who killed the child. That social worker lied every inch of the way. She exhibited no true remorse. I have never seen such a cold-blooded hypocrite in my life. Enter "frontline logan marr" on the PBS search engine to read about it. |

| That was a horrible, horrible story. The foster home system purely s*cks in many regards. There are as many sickos out there being allowed to "foster" children as there are good foster parents being allowed to. Just a bad system for children who are so tragically displaced already. Makes it even more inexusable. hmmbrdzz |

brass ballsEnter "marilyn lively" on the search engine at www.theadvocate.com to see basic info on another case. Lively is accused of murdering a child. The newspaper accounts do not mention what was shown on the ABC TV affiliate, KATC: that child welfare bureaucrats were notified that the child was at risk BY FAX FROM THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE prior to the murder. A bureaucrat from Child Welfare on TV had the brass balls to deny such notification despite the fact that the sheriff's office sent that agency notification BY FAX. Edit: Lively will be arraigned for first degree murder on april 1, 2003. Last edited by pamela vandi; 03-21-2003 at 11:52 AM. |

updateThe following article reports the liability of the mother and aunt of the victim. I am waiting to see a report on the sheriff's department's liability for the child's death, since the abuse was reported to the sheriff's office before the child died. They apparently failed to intervene. Reviews: 0 Rating: No Rating Pair charged with pilfering child’s money Marsha Sills msills@theadvertiser.com June 17, 2003 NEW IBERIA — The mother and aunt of a malnourished girl who died while in the care of a third woman have been arrested for pocketing money intended to care for the child’s needs, according to a news release from Iberia Parish Sheriff Sid Hebert. Charged with felony theft were Nettravon Sam, of the 500 block of West Admiral Doyle Drive, New Iberia, and Johnnylon Sam, of the 500 block of Johnston Street, New Iberia, Hebert said. Nettravon Sam is the biological mother of Jermasha Javon Decuir, 5, whose Jan. 30 death is being treated as a homicide. Johnnylon Sam is the girl’s aunt. Decuir and her brother had been in the unofficial custody of Marilyn Lively since June 2000, Hebert said. Lively was indicted for the 5-year-old’s death and has pleaded innocent to the charge. Nettravon Sam is accused of two counts of theft for receiving $2,294 from one social service program and $6,467 in food stamps intended for the two children, Hebert said. Decuir’s aunt, Johnnylon Sam, has been charged with one count of felony theft for collecting $8,520 from another state program for allegedly caring for the children during the daytime. The girl’s grandmother, Jeanette Sam, has said that Lively was a friend of her daughter’s and offered to take care of both children. Decuir weighed 27 pounds at the time of her death. The coroner’s report revealed evidence of chronic malnutrition, but the cause of her death has not been revealed by law enforcement agencies. “The irony of this case is that help was being provided for by the state to assist the biological mom, to help raise the child in a healthy fashion, but the money was kept by both mom and aunt,” Hebert said. Both women were booked into the Iberia Parish Jail. ©The Lafayette Daily Advertiser June 17, 2003 |

| You know, as lacking as the "orphanage system" is in so many ways, I read these sorts of stories and wonder whether the "transparency" of such a system is in some ways preferable. There are multiple caregivers interacting with the kids. My girl was in her orphanage from birth to 25 months. I have mixed feelings. I also think the system sucks for letting kids linger in foster care for way too long. A parent needs to get their act together for their kids, or these kids should have a right to a permanent home if they can't within a reasonable time. Kids shouldn't be forced to linger in limbo until too old for adoption and too damaged from being in a parade of foster homes.

another updatehttp://www.iberianet.com/articles/2004/08/17/news/news/news21.txt The above link is an update of the punishment of two principals in the murder allegedly committed by Marilyn Lively, mentioned in previous messages. The mother and aunt of the victim will serve three months in jail and must repay the money they stole thru fraud from taxpayers. I am still waiting for the sheriff's office to be held accountable for failing to report Lively to child welfare authorities before Lively allegedly killed the child. One of Lively's relatives reported her to the sheriff before the child was murdered. The welfare dept. probably wouldn't have helped the victim anyway, judging from their track record. |
