72 Hour Hold

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
Hello,

My son who is 16 was sent from Minnesota to South Dakota to be evaluated
at a behavioral hospital for a seventy two hour stay from the emergency room
doctor. I found out that my insurance company would not cover
mental health patients, so I told my sons doctor at the behavioral center that
he will have to come home with his parents after the seventy two hold is done.
The doctor then asked the South Dakota department of mental health to issue
an additional twenty four hour stay, they did this for an additional four more days.
The behavioral hospital is telling me that I am responsible for the additional
cost of my sons stay, even though I didn't give my consent on his extra days
at the hospital. Who is responsible for the cost of this?

You are. Clearly he needs serious treatment. You can try to apply for state aid for him though.
